Activities & honors
Build your Common App activities section over three years instead of three panicked days in October.
This list does double duty. It is the Common App activities section, and it is also the experience an organisation reads when you apply for work through the jobs board. Written once, read by both. See the overlap between the two applications.
The limits are the point
The Common App gives you 10 activity slots and 5 honor slots, and activity descriptions are capped at 150 characters. Fledgy AI enforces all three visibly: counters on the page, and a live character count that turns red past 150.
What each activity holds
- Title, organisation and your position
- Hours per week and weeks per year, multiplied into an annual hours figure
- Grade levels (9-12), as checkboxes
- Recognition level: school, regional, state, national, international
- Description, with the 150-character counter
Annual hours matter more than weekly hours. Four hours a week for 40 weeks reads very differently from fifteen hours a week for six. The PDF export sorts your activities by annual hours, which is roughly how a reader weighs them.
Honors
Same form, minus the time fields. Anything with a name and a level counts, including school-level recognition. Use the honors finder to discover awards you are eligible for but have never heard of, particularly the school-nominated ones nobody asks about.
Writing descriptions that work
The personal branding section includes a bullet auditor that checks each description for a number, a strong opening verb and a stated outcome. It flags every activity description you've written that contains no digits at all, those are the ones a reader skims past.
Compare:
Helped with beach cleanups in my area.
Organised 14 cleanups; recruited 60 volunteers
and removed 2.1 tonnes of debris.Same work. Only one is believable.
Major playbook
Below your list, Fledgy AI shows concrete extracurricular moves matched to your intended major, 18 majors, each with 4-6 specific ideas rated by effort, and an honest reason each one carries weight. These are recommendations to act on, not activities that get logged automatically.
XP
25 XP per activity, 30 per honor, awarded every time because logging more is the desired behaviour.
